Don is one of the founders of Ryan Whaley Coldiron Shandy P. C. His legal practice is focused in the environmental and energy areas. Don formerly served as the Deputy General Counsel for Tronox LLC (formerly Kerr-McGee Chemical Company). Tronox is a multinational company and is the world’s third largest producer of titanium dioxide pigment. While at Tronox, he was responsible for the company’s litigation and environmental matters.
Don has worked on projects in 40 states, including numerous EPA Regional Offices and EPA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. as well as matters in Europe and Australia. He has worked with a number of industry sectors including oil and gas exploration and production, pulp and paper, natural gas and coal fired electric generation, refining, aerospace, cement manufacturing and tire manufacturing. Don has extensive experience with administrative and civil matters related to environmental compliance. He has investigated and defended white collar environmental crimes cases involving the USEPA and the Department of Justice.
In 2001, Shandy was nominated by the Western Governors’ Association to become Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation at the USEPA in Washington D.C. He ultimately chose to not pursue this opportunity due to family considerations.
